Brave Train Employee Suffers Severe Wounds During Mass Stabbing Incident on High-Speed Service

A brave railway staff member who intervened to save passengers during a multiple knife attack on a high-speed train has sustained life-threatening wounds, police confirmed on Sunday.

Particulars of the Terrifying Incident

CCTV footage reportedly shows the employee trying to halt the attacker as the train traveled between Peterborough and another station in Cambridgeshire. Witnesses described a frightening 14-minute period after the train departed Peterborough, with bloodied passengers fleeing through carriages.

The individual, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, is in detention for questioning. Police declared a significant incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Emergency Response and Aftermath

The incident on Saturday night led to 11 people being treated in medical facilities after the train made an unscheduled stop at the station in Huntingdon. Five people have since been released from medical care.

A witness filmed the suspect brandishing a big knife and being subdued with a stun device as he faced police on the platform. He was reportedly heard yelling, "Kill me, kill me."

“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. We are thinking of the victims and their families – particularly the courageous member of rail staff whose family are being assisted by trained personnel,” said a senior police official.

Union Response and Appeals for Action

Train associations were swift to praise employees and demand more measures. A union leader stated he would be “seeking urgent discussions with authorities, rail employers and law enforcement to ensure that we have the best available support, tools and robust protocols in place”.

A different association representative urged the rail company and government “to act swiftly to examine security, to support the affected employees, and to ensure nothing like this occurs again”.

Driver Commended for Quick Thinking

The train driver who halted the service at Huntingdon was reported as being “deeply affected” but “good”, and has been commended by union representatives for doing “precisely what was needed”.

“He did not stop the service in the center of two stations where it’s obviously difficult for the emergency services to reach, but he carried on traveling until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the assistance was pretty much waiting,” explained a union representative.

Additional Information

Police stated they received the first distress reports at 7:39 pm, and the train was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One observer described at first thinking if the situation was a Halloween joke, but soon realized from people's faces that it was real.

Authorities have stated there is no evidence to indicate the event was a terrorist attack and have requested the public to provide with any further details.

Rail services on the affected line are expected to experience disruption until the following day, with passengers advised to defer their travel where possible.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation are asked to reach authorities by sending a message a specific number with a case code.
